Melissa Penniman
Administrative Assistant/Adoption Coordinator
Although I have spent most of my life in Pensacola, Florida, my journey began in Rota, Spain. Growing up as a military child, I moved around the world, gaining a unique perspective on life. Eventually, I settled down and earned a business degree from the University of West Florida.
My career has been quite diverse. I started in sales at a local newspaper, which was a great way to develop my communication skills. For the past ten years, I have been the Office Administrator at McKenzie Law Firm, managing the office and supporting our legal team.
Before joining Gulf Coast Adoptions, I had the opportunity to assist as a notary at consent signings. This experience allowed me to witness firsthand the joy that adoption brings, solidifying my passion for family and adoption. Now, working with Clay and Cheryl Whittaker, I feel excited and fulfilled in my new role.
Through my best friend’s involvement in the Foster Program, I have seen the differences between private adoptions, which are voluntary, and foster adoptions. It has been eye-opening to witness the tough decisions parents make for their children’s futures. As a mom, I understand the desire to make the best decisions for your child, and that is what these moms are doing.
When I’m not working, I cherish spending time with my two teenage sons. We often volunteer together, which is something we all find fulfilling. I also serve on the board for Independence for the Blind. At home, I have two rescue pets: Frank, a Boston Terrier, and Meco, a long-haired grey and white cat. I enjoy gardening, savoring a great meal, and taking a good road trip. My love for music is so profound that I even named my car after the patron saint of music, Cecilia.
